Day 1. Uluru Sunset, Kata Tjuta (Olgas)
Welcomed on arrival at Ayers Rock Airport. This afternoon drive out to the
magnificent domes of Kata Tjuta, where the cluster of 36 dramatic rock
formations dominate the western skyline of the park. Opportunity to take a walk
into majestic Olga Gorge, where some of the plants are so rare that they are
only found in and around these distinct sandstone monoliths. It is believed that
at one time the domes may have been a single sedimentary rock many times the
size of Uluru, but has been weathered by wind and rain over millions of years to
shape the unique geological phenomenon that stands today. Tales of the Tjukurpa
(Dreamtime) period are closely linked to the domes 0f Kata Tjuta. Stop at sunset
strip and enjoy a glass of wine with our compliments as you watch the ever
changing colours of Uluru, at sunset.
Accommodation: Ayers Rock Resort - Spinifex Lodge (Budget, shared
facilities), Outback Pioneer (Standard), Desert Gardens Hotel (First-Class),
Sails in the Desert Hotel (Deluxe).
Day 2. Sunrise Viewing, Liru Walk, Cultural Centre, Maruku Arts and Crafts
Enter Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park for sunrise viewing over Uluru and then
enjoy breakfast. Join Aboriginal guides and an Aboriginal language interpreter
for the Liru Walk. Retrace the path of Aboriginal mythological ancestors and
hear stories told by the traditional owners, learn about the history of Uluru
and ancient bush skills. Archeological data suggests that Aboriginal people have
inhabited this area for at least 20,000 years. This is a rare opportunity to
explore a piece of Australian legend, as seen by two cultures, striving to
preserve the land and culture. Visit the Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and
Craft Cooperative to gain a greater appreciation of the religious significance
of the park. This afternoon depart for Alice Springs, arriving 6 30 p.m. (B)
